FOR HOME IMPROVEMENT COMPANIES

They're getting three prices. You need to be the organised one.

Kitchens, bathrooms, windows, doors, driveways, conversions — big spends that people research for weeks. How quickly you reply and how prepared you are says as much as the quote does.

TYPICAL PROBLEMS

High-ticket work has its own failure points.

A £20,000 kitchen isn't sold the way a repair is. More consideration, more comparison, more people involved.

Enquiring with four companies at once

Saturday morning, four websites, four forms. Whoever replies first gets the first appointment.

Long showroom or design appointments

Two hours of a designer's time is expensive to give to someone who was only curious.

Budget mismatch found too late

A design produced for someone expecting to spend a third of what the job costs.

Both decision-makers need to be there

Appointments wasted because one partner couldn't make it and nothing can be signed.

Quotes that go cold at week three

People take weeks to decide, and nobody's in touch during the weeks that matter.

Finance and phasing questions

Common at this level, and rarely answered consistently by whoever picks up the phone.

A KITCHEN ENQUIRY, SATURDAY 10:12

Four firms contacted. Two reply on Monday.

By then the appointment is already booked with someone else.

THE OTHER THREE

SAT 10:12Form submitted. Automatic "we'll be in touch" email.

MON 09:40Someone rings. No answer — she's at work.

TUEA voicemail. No further attempt.

NEXT WEEKMarked as unresponsive. She wasn't.

YOU

SAT 10:13A real reply, asking what she's looking to change and roughly when.

SAT 10:21Full replacement, 4x3m room, hoping to start after Christmas, budget around £18k.

SAT 10:24Design appointment offered for Thursday evening, when both of them are in.

THU 18:30You walk in already knowing the room, the budget and the timescale.

WHAT WE'D USUALLY SET UP

For a home improvement business, in this order.

QUALIFYING A HIGH-TICKET ENQUIRY

What are you looking to have done?

Full replacement or partial refit?

Roughly what size is the room or opening?

When would you like the work done?

Do you have a budget range in mind?

Will everyone involved in the decision be there?

The last one saves more wasted appointments than any of the others.

Home improvement questions

Won't asking about budget put people off?

Asked badly, yes. Asked as a range, framed around making sure the appointment is worth their evening, most people answer happily — and it prevents an uncomfortable conversation later.

We have a showroom. Does that change anything?

It becomes the booking goal. Showroom visits can be offered with real availability, confirmed and reminded, which cuts no-shows noticeably.

Can it handle finance questions?

It can give the factual information you've approved and flag anything beyond that for a person. We wouldn't set up a system that improvises around credit.

What about following up quotes?

That's often where the biggest gain is. Quotes sitting unanswered for three weeks get a structured, polite follow-up instead of being quietly written off.

How long does a Saturday enquiry wait?

In this market, that single number decides a lot of your appointments.
